Best Katmer in Gaziantep
Katmer in Gaziantep is a perfectly good reason to start the day with something sweet. Thin pastry, pistachios and kaymak—the rich clotted cream—come together in a hot breakfast that needs little more than tea or milk alongside it. These six addresses cover specialist shops in the old centre and a place to make katmer part of a longer breakfast.
For a first stop, choose Katmerci Zekeriya Usta, where our own visits go back to 2009. Pick Orkide for a broader breakfast, or Metanet to explore different katmer shapes.

1. Katmerci Zekeriya Usta — Çukur

Our Gaziantep katmer story goes back to 2009, when we left Ciğerci Mustafa and headed to Zekeriya Usta. The cream used here was described to us as the “cream of the cream.” With the hot pastry, pistachios and kaymak together on the plate, the expression made perfect sense.
We later went into the kitchen to film the preparation. Watching the dough stretched so thin gives you another reason to appreciate what arrives at the table. This is where we would start with the classic version and share it straight from the oven. Today, the business continues its family tradition.
What to order: Classic pistachio and kaymak katmer.
Address: Çukur Mahallesi, Bay Hilmi Geçidi No:16/C-D, Şahinbey, Gaziantep

2. Orkide Pastanesi — Gazimuhtarpaşa

Choose Orkide when you want more on the breakfast table than katmer alone. In our Gaziantep breakfast notes, we singled out both katmer and batma kaymak alongside the regional breakfast spread. It suits a slower meal with several things to share rather than a quick pastry stop.
This entry is for the Gazimuhtarpaşa branch on Gazi Muhtar Paşa Bulvarı. Plan it as a separate breakfast stop from the old-bazaar addresses below. Leave room for the katmer: ask about its size before ordering the rest of the table, so it can arrive while everyone still has an appetite.
What to order: Katmer; batma kaymak if you are ordering breakfast too.
Address: Değirmiçem Mahallesi, Gazi Muhtar Paşa Bulvarı No:17, Şehitkamil, Gaziantep

3. Katmerci Murat — Bey

Katmerci Murat is an option to mark on your map when exploring Bey Mahallesi and Atatürk Bulvarı. Keep the order simple: pistachio katmer, then back to the streets. It is a straightforward choice for visitors who want their sweet breakfast to revolve around the pastry itself.
If you are comparing several shops, order the same classic style at each. You will find it easier to notice the thickness of the dough, how it has baked and the balance of filling. Share portions between your group rather than trying to finish a whole katmer at every stop.
What to order: Pistachio katmer.
Address: Bey Mahallesi, Atatürk Bulvarı No:11, Şahinbey, Gaziantep

4. Metanet Katmer — Kalealtı

Metanet’s Kalealtı menu makes sense when you want to look beyond the familiar square katmer. Alongside the classic, it lists simit, burma, muska and yaprak versions, as well as chocolate options. Simit here refers to the ring-shaped katmer, not the sesame bread ring you may know from Istanbul.
For a first visit, start with the classic before moving on to a different shape. A group can share a classic and a simit or burma version to see how the folding changes the balance of pastry and filling. The address here is the Gaziantep branch on Derekenarı Caddesi.
What to order: Classic katmer, simit katmer or burma katmer.
Address: Seferpaşa Mahallesi, Derekenarı Caddesi No:29/A, Şahinbey, Gaziantep

5. Katmerci Cengiz — Alaybey

Katmerci Cengiz adds variety to a sweet stop on Karagöz Caddesi: the source guide notes kadayıf and lokma as well as classic and simit katmer. That can help when some people at the table want katmer and others would rather order another dessert.
You do not need to save this stop until after a large lunch. Share a katmer before continuing through the bazaar, and ask how large the chosen version is before adding more sweets. Online listings differ on the street number and phone; search the full business name and confirm the current storefront before setting out.
What to order: Classic or simit katmer.
Address: Alaybey Mahallesi, Karagöz Caddesi No:17/E, Şahinbey, Gaziantep

6. Beyoğlu Katmercim — Suyabatmaz

Despite the name, this Beyoğlu is in Gaziantep, not Istanbul. The business traces its family story to Mehmet Kütük and the historic Buğday Pazarı area near Tahmis. The Kozluca Caddesi address makes it a useful option for adding a warm katmer break to a walk through the old commercial streets.
Our starting order would again be the pistachio-and-kaymak classic. The business advertises shipping, but a visitor planning to take katmer home should ask about packaging, storage and preparation for the actual journey. For the immediate experience, order it hot and eat it at the shop.
What to order: Classic pistachio and kaymak katmer.
Address: Suyabatmaz Mahallesi, Kozluca Caddesi No:6, Şahinbey, Gaziantep

How to plan a katmer morning
Start with one classic katmer and ask how many people the shop recommends sharing it between. Portion sizes vary. Eat it while it is hot rather than spending too long taking photographs; if you plan a second stop, share the first portion and compare the same style at both shops.
Keep Orkide’s Gazimuhtarpaşa branch as a separate breakfast plan from the old-bazaar stops. For the rest of your trip, use our Gaziantep kebab guide and Gaziantep baklava guide. A coffee break at Tahmis Coffeehouse is another option when you are exploring the historic centre.
Questions about katmer in Gaziantep
Is katmer eaten for breakfast?
Yes. In Gaziantep, katmer is a morning food as well as a dessert. You can make it the centre of breakfast rather than waiting until after dinner.
What should I order for my first katmer?
Start with the classic pistachio-and-kaymak version. Once you have a reference point, try a ring-shaped simit katmer or a rolled burma version.
How many people can share one katmer?
It depends on the shop and the style. Tell the server how many people are sharing and ask about the size before ordering.
How much does katmer cost?
Check the shop’s current menu before ordering. Compare both the style and the portion size; a different shape or larger serving is not necessarily a like-for-like comparison.
Can I take katmer home?
Ask the individual shop about takeaway or shipping and explain how long your journey will be. Follow its storage and preparation instructions rather than assuming every version travels the same way.

Editor’s note
Last checked: 23 October 2026. This English guide draws on our Turkish editorial selection, archive photographs and recorded visits; the 2009 visit and later kitchen filming refer specifically to Zekeriya Usta. Branch and menu details were checked against business websites and current listings where available. The six entries serve different breakfast plans, rather than representing a scored tasting of every shop. Cengiz’s contact listings differ, so confirm its current storefront before visiting.
