Best Lángos in Budapest: 7 Places to Try
Looking for the best lángos in Budapest? We would start at Langos Papi and order the classic with garlic, sour cream and grated cheese. Its broad dough, thin upturned edges and garlic balance won us over after our first lángos stop at Krumplis on Váci utca.
Those two visits showed us how much the same dish can change from one counter to another. This guide brings them together with five researched addresses, from market stalls in Buda to a City Park stop near the thermal baths. Choose a place that fits your day, then let the fried dough take center stage.
About this list: We ate at Langos Papi and Krumplis on Váci utca in September 2026. The other five entries draw on business information and local food coverage. Numbers help you navigate the guide; they are not a ranking of seven personal tastings. Practical information checked October 6, 2026; prices are dated individually below.

What is lángos, and what should you order?
Lángos is a broad piece of fried dough, often finished with garlic, sour cream and grated cheese. The shape and toppings can resemble pizza, but the base is fried. For us it recalled pişi, the fried dough served at Turkish breakfasts, stretched into a much wider shape.
Start with sajtos-tejfölös, the cheese-and-sour-cream version, and ask for garlic if you want the combination we enjoyed. Look for fokhagyma on the menu. The tangy sour cream, cheese and garlic give you plenty to taste without burying the dough under several extra toppings.
1. Langos Papi: our pick for the classic

At the small shop on Madách Imre út, we ordered two classics. Both came with garlic, sour cream and cheese. Compared with Krumplis, the dough was wider and the edges thinner, curling upward around the topping. The garlic balance was the detail we liked most.
We sat at the small outdoor tables after coming through an arched passage into the street. It suited a short food stop between walks, and we did not feel the need to add another topping. Of the two lángos shops we tried, this was our favorite.
Our order: Hungarian Classic. Visit price: 2,600 HUF in September 2026, excluding drinks. Read our full Langos Papi review for more photos, the visit video and our comparison with Krumplis.

2. Krumplis Lángos: our first taste on Váci utca
Read our full Krumplis Lángos review for our classic and sausage orders, visit photos and menu prices.

Our first lángos stop was near Corvinus University, toward the market end of Váci utca. We ordered a Classic and a Hungarian, the latter adding sausage and red onion to the sour cream and cheese. We enjoyed both: a useful introduction to how much toppings can change the same fried base.
The small, high-ceilinged shop had seating inside and upstairs, with a few tables outside. Service was self-service: we paid at the counter and watched for our number on the screen. Our order took around ten minutes on that visit.
Our order: Classic, or the Hungarian if sharing a second version. Visit prices: 3,000 HUF and 3,600 HUF respectively, September 2026. This is the Váci utca address; the Flórián tér counter below is a separate stop in this guide.
Address: Váci utca 76, 1056 Budapest

3. Lángos Land: a Buda market stop

Lángos Land makes sense when your day takes you to Fény utcai piac on the Buda side. A lángos counter inside a working market offers a different setting from the central sightseeing streets: build your stop around browsing the stalls.
Our source research found classic and stuffed options, including juhtúró, a sheep’s-milk curd cheese filling. Start with cheese and sour cream for a direct comparison, or ask about the stuffed version if you want something different. Follow the market signs for Lángos Land once inside.
Order to consider: cheese and sour cream, or juhtúró-filled lángos. The business lists daytime service and Sunday closure; check its hours for your visit. We have not included a delivery-platform price as a counter price.
Address: Lövőház utca 12, 1024 Budapest

4. Retro Lángos: a stop near Parliament

Retro is a useful address to pair with Parliament and Liberty Square. Its menu runs from plain fried dough to cheese, sour cream and more heavily topped combinations, with stuffed options listed separately.
Go to the correct branch: on October 6, 2026, the official site directed guests to Vécsey utca 3 while Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 25 was temporarily closed for renovation and expansion. The Vécsey branch listed daily hours of 11am–10pm.
Order to consider: sour cream and cheese, with garlic if wanted. The official online menu listed it at 3,490 HUF when checked. Confirm the branch notice before setting out.
Address: Vécsey utca 3, 1054 Budapest
Directions on Google Maps · Official branch information
5. Ligeti Lángos: potato dough in City Park

For a food break around Városliget, the zoo or Széchenyi Baths, Ligeti brings lángos into the park itinerary. The business says it uses milk and potato flakes in its dough, a useful distinction if you are interested in comparing bases as well as toppings.
The official menu includes a classic with cheese, sour cream and garlic, alongside sheep’s-cheese, vegetable and meat combinations. We would begin with the classic to keep the dough in focus.
Order to consider: sajtos-tejfölös. On October 6, 2026, the official menu listed it at 3,190 HUF, with plain lángos at 1,990 HUF. Published hours were daily, 11am–7pm.
Address: Állatkerti körút 3, 1146 Budapest

6. Flórián téri Krumplis Lángos: an Óbuda counter

This counter in the Flórián tér underpass appears in local food coverage for its potato dough. It is an option for readers exploring Óbuda beyond the central sightseeing route. Funzine included it in its May 2026 lángos selection.
Check before making a special trip. Our source research found an older temporary-closure notice alongside newer recommendations. We have not confirmed a current business menu or dependable daily hours, so this remains an address to verify before visiting.
Order to consider: the cheese-and-sour-cream classic. Remember that our personal Krumplis tasting took place on Váci utca, not here.
Address: Flórián tér underpass, 1033 Budapest
Directions on Google Maps
7. Lángos Centrum: a break at Lehel Market

Lángos Centrum puts another market on the itinerary: Lehel Csarnok, at Váci út 9–15. Pay attention to the street name when navigating. Váci út here is not Váci utca, where we visited Krumplis.
Street Kitchen’s 2024 market comparison covered classic and dill-curd-filled versions here. Its verdict also found the dough oily and a little underseasoned, so this is a market option rather than an unqualified personal recommendation from us.
Order to consider: cheese and sour cream, or ask whether the dill-curd filling is available. Check the current counter menu for prices; an older tasting price would not tell you what you will pay now. Read the local market comparison.
Address: Váci út 9–15, 1134 Budapest

Bonus: lángos upstairs at Central Market Hall
The upstairs food area at Central Market Hall offers another chance to find lángos during a market visit. Treat it as a bonus to the seven named places above. Look at the plain price, topping charges and final total before ordering.
We visited the market for its food stalls, paprika and charcuterie; this is not a claim that we tasted its upstairs lángos. You can read about that stop in our Budapest food guide.
Address: Vámház körút 1–3, 1093 Budapest
